Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan have reportedly set
their sights on Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey, with the Nerazzurri and
several other Italian clubs closely monitoring the Nigeria international ahead
of the January transfer window.
The 26-year-old centre-back, who is also comfortable
operating as a left-back, has become a key member of Marco Silva’s Fulham side
since joining the club from Ajax in the summer of 2023 in a £19 million move.
Bassey’s versatility, physical strength, and calmness
in possession have made him an important asset at Craven Cottage, especially as
Fulham navigate a demanding Premier League campaign affected by injuries and
international call-ups.
The defender is currently away on international duty
with Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, alongside club teammates Alex
Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze. His absence from recent Fulham fixtures has further
highlighted his importance to the team’s defensive stability.
Despite growing interest from Italy, Fulham are
reportedly unwilling to sanction a mid-season departure, viewing the former
Rangers defender as a central figure in their defensive setup and long-term
plans.
Inter Milan’s interest is said to be driven by the
club’s need to bolster its defensive options, as Christian Chivu’s side looks
to strengthen squad depth amid a fierce Serie A title race and the demands of
Champions League football.
