American rapper J. Cole has canceled his scheduled
concert in Sacramento following the death of a member of his touring crew in a
trucking accident in California.
The rapper was scheduled to perform at the Golden 1
Center on Thursday, August 27, but the show was called off after a truck
transporting equipment for his concert was involved in a fatal crash.
In a statement, J. Cole’s team said the decision was
made following the “tragic passing” of a member of the touring crew and
expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and loved ones.
The crash occurred at about 6:00 a.m. on southbound
Interstate 5 near Woodland, California, in Yolo County, northwest of
Sacramento.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the
truck was carrying equipment for Cole’s show when it drifted onto the right
shoulder of the highway. The vehicle reportedly overturned as the driver
attempted to steer it back onto the freeway.
The driver, who was the only occupant of the truck,
had to be extricated from the wreckage. Emergency responders also dispatched a
helicopter to the scene, but authorities later confirmed that the driver had
died.
The overturned semi-truck blocked all southbound lanes
of I-5 between the Zamora and Dufour areas, just south of County Road 95.
Golden 1 Center later confirmed that the person who
died was a member of J. Cole’s touring crew and said the Sacramento concert
would not go ahead as scheduled.
Fans who purchased tickets through Ticketmaster will
receive automatic refunds, while those who bought tickets through other outlets
have been advised to request refunds directly from their original point of
purchase.
