The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has directed all candidates who uploaded their O’level results before the official release of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results to return to accredited centres and re-upload their results.

According to the examination body, all previously uploaded results have been wiped from its system to make way for the final WAEC results.

“JAMB has dropped all previously uploaded results to allow candidates to upload the WAEC SSCE final results. Please re-upload your 2025 SSCE result to the JAMB portal without delay to be eligible for admission consideration,” the board announced.

Who is affected

The directive affects:

  • Candidates who sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) using awaiting results.
  • Candidates who uploaded provisional or incomplete WAEC SSCE results before the official release.

JAMB stressed that only final WAEC SSCE results will be recognised in the 2025 admission process. Any candidate who fails to comply risks being excluded from consideration.

Why JAMB cleared all uploads

JAMB explained that many candidates uploaded their results before WAEC concluded its internal verification process, leading to discrepancies. To avoid admitting students based on inaccurate data, the board decided to clear all previous uploads.

“All candidates are now required to re-upload their results, whether or not they differ from earlier uploads,” the board said.

WAEC results controversy

The directive comes after a turbulent month for students and examination bodies:

  • WAEC initially released the 2025 WASSCE results on August 4, showing only 38.32% of candidates with five credits including English and Mathematics.
  • The low pass rate sparked nationwide concern about the state of Nigeria’s education system.
  • On August 9, WAEC temporarily shut down its result-checking portal after identifying errors linked to a wrong serialised code file that affected grading in Mathematics, English, Biology, and Economics.
  • By the time the portal reopened, WAEC had corrected the anomalies, pushing the overall pass rate up to 62.96%.
  • Because many students had already uploaded the flawed results to JAMB’s portal, the exam body suspended uploads around August 14 to prevent inconsistencies.
  • On August 20–21, JAMB reopened the upload system but cleared all records to create a clean slate for verified results.

What this means for candidates

With university admission processes already underway, candidates must urgently visit JAMB centres to upload their corrected WAEC results. Failure to do so may automatically disqualify them from the 2025 admission list.

Education stakeholders say the development highlights the urgent need for closer coordination between WAEC and JAMB to prevent confusion in future admission cycles.
