The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has
approved 150 as the minimum cut-off mark for admission into Nigerian
universities for the 2026 academic session.
The decision was reached during the board’s ongoing
2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions held in Abuja on Monday.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders in the
education sector, including representatives of tertiary institutions across the
country and the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa.
The annual policy meeting is organised by JAMB to
determine admission guidelines, entry requirements, and benchmark scores for
universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across Nigeria.
With the newly approved benchmark, universities are
expected to admit only candidates who score at least 150 in the 2026 Unified
Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), although individual institutions may
still set higher cut-off marks based on their internal admission policies and
competition for courses.
