FIFA has announced the members of its Technical Study
Group (TSG) for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the panel set to deliver advanced
tactical analysis and performance insights throughout the tournament.
The group will operate under the guidance of former
Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger, who currently serves as FIFA’s Chief of Global
Football Development.
The newly unveiled panel features several prominent
football figures from around the world, including Otto Addo, Tobin Heath,
Jürgen Klinsmann, Jayne Ludlow, Michael O'Neill, Gilberto Silva, Jon Dahl
Tomasson, Paulo Wanchope, Aron Winter, and Pablo Zabaleta.
The team will be coordinated by FIFA Senior Football
Expert Pascal Zuberbühler and Football Performance Insights lead Tom Gardner,
alongside analysts, data scientists, engineers, and performance experts working
from Miami, Dallas, and Manchester.
According to FIFA, the Technical Study Group will
analyse all 104 matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup using advanced tactical
tools, multiple live video feeds, and thousands of real-time data points.
The organisation also revealed plans to introduce some
of the most advanced performance metrics and football intelligence tools ever
used at a World Cup, giving fans, broadcasters, and participating teams deeper
insight into every match.
The enhanced analysis system, developed by FIFA’s
Football Performance Insights team in collaboration with Wenger, will provide
in-game and post-match visuals using augmented reality and advanced graphics
technology.
Speaking on the initiative, Wenger said the Technical
Study Group plays a major role in identifying emerging trends in football and
helping shape the future of the game.
“With an unprecedented level of high-quality data, the
TSG will be able to analyse and interpret what is happening on the pitch in
ways that benefit both football experts and fans,” Wenger explained.
Beyond tactical analysis, members of the TSG will also
be responsible for selecting winners of the tournament’s individual awards at
the conclusion of the competition.
