James Milner has broken the Premier League appearance
record, moving ahead of former Aston Villa and Manchester City midfielder
Gareth Barry. The 40-year-old midfielder, currently at Brighton & Hove
Albion, achieved the milestone in Brighton’s 2?0 win over Brentford, with
first-half goals from Diego Gomez and Danny Welbeck.
Milner, who began his Premier League career as a
16-year-old with Leeds United, has enjoyed spells at Newcastle, Aston Villa,
Manchester City, and Liverpool. Over his career, he has won three Premier
League titles, two FA Cups, and the Champions League.
Asked about the secret to his longevity, Milner
credited his drive and hunger to perform every day, whether in training or
games. “I’m surrounded by a lot of young lads; I want to contribute to their
careers, push them, and help them get to the highest level as quickly as
possible,” he said.
Despite occasional frustration over limited playing
time this season, Milner said he continues to contribute both on and off the
pitch. Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler praised Milner’s professionalism and
discipline, calling him a “role model on the pitch and beside the pitch.”
Milner has not ruled out extending his career beyond
this season, noting the unpredictability of football and his determination to
keep pushing despite injuries last season.
