A Magistrate’s Court in Kura, Kano State, has ordered
the remand of a man identified as Abdul’aziz in a correctional facility over
the alleged assault of a 75-year-old hospital worker.
The suspect was accused of assaulting Hajiya Sahura
Abdullahi Kura, a staff member of Kura General Hospital, after she reportedly
stopped him from entering the maternity section of the facility.
During proceedings, police prosecutor Inspector Nasiru
Abubakar Dansakkwato brought the suspect before Magistrate Muhammad Alhaji Isah
to face the allegation.
The charge was read to Abdul’aziz, after which he
pleaded guilty to the offence.
Following his plea, the court ordered that the suspect
be remanded in a correctional facility while the case proceeds.
The magistrate adjourned the matter until September
17, 2026, for further consideration.
The alleged incident has drawn attention to the need
for the protection of healthcare workers, particularly as hospitals remain
critical environments where staff must be able to carry out their duties
without intimidation or violence.
