The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a 25-year-old
man, Bala Haruna, over an alleged attempt to traffic two girls to Arab
countries for domestic work.
The Deputy Commander General of the board, Dr. Mujahid
Aminuddeen, disclosed on Friday that the suspect was arrested on Thursday at a
motor park in Kano.
According to Aminuddeen, Haruna, who is from Kazaure
Local Government Area of Jigawa State, was apprehended alongside two girls
identified as 23-year-old Fatima Safiyanu from Daura, Katsina State, and
11-year-old Hasiya Haruna from Kazaure, Jigawa State.
He said investigations are ongoing to determine how
the planned trip was arranged and to identify everyone involved in the alleged
trafficking scheme.
The Hisbah Board has since handed the suspect and the
two girls over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in
Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and appropriate legal action.
Aminuddeen also urged parents, guardians and members
of the public to exercise caution when approached with offers of domestic jobs
abroad. He advised prospective applicants to verify the authenticity of such
opportunities before accepting them to avoid falling victim to human
trafficking.
