A 23-year-old hotel worker, Victoria Emmanuel,
is receiving treatment for severe burns after allegedly being attacked with boiling
water by her colleague’s girlfriend, Chioma Michael, on November
10, 2025, in Kawo, Kano.
Victoria had accompanied her colleague, 28-year-old
Shadrach Michael, to his apartment to pick up items for her birthday.
Chioma reportedly arrived unexpectedly, and during a confrontation, poured
boiling water on Victoria, burning her face, back, chest, and hands.
Victoria was locked in the apartment for nearly five hours before being
taken to Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, and later transferred to a
clinic in Nomansland.
Police arrested Chioma’s mother to compel her
surrender, and Chioma later turned herself in. The case is now under
investigation at Bompai Police Headquarters.
A Magistrate Court in Kawaji has remanded
Chioma at the Goron Dutse Correctional Centre until December 9,
rejecting a bail application. She faces a charge of attempted culpable
homicide under Section 229 of the Penal Code, which carries life
imprisonment or, in some cases, death.
Victoria is reportedly responding well to treatment,
while the family has not decided on legal action.
