Kebbi Gov. Idris Presents ?642bn ‘Budget of Transformation and People’s Empowerment’ for 2026

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has presented a ?642 billion 2026 budget proposal titled “Budget of Transformation and People’s Empowerment,” with a strong emphasis on infrastructure development, security enhancement, and improved accountability.

According to the governor, the spending plan prioritises strategic investments aimed at accelerating development across the state while addressing security challenges, including the recent abduction of schoolgirls in Maga.

?3bn Takeoff Grant for Security Trust Fund

Governor Idris revealed that the budget includes a dedicated provision for the Kebbi State Security Trust Fund, which will receive a ?3 billion takeoff grant. The fund is expected to boost community-level security operations and support the government’s broader effort to curb rising insecurity.

75% Capital Expenditure, 25% Recurrent

Presenting the financial breakdown, Idris stated that 75% of the budget (?479 billion) is allocated to capital projects, while 25% (?163 billion) is reserved for recurrent expenditure.

He explained that the budget will be funded through the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), Value Added Tax (VAT), and the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR).

Major Infrastructure Projects to be Completed in Q1 2026

The governor noted that several major infrastructure projects—including Zuru, Bena, and Wasagu General Hospitals—are on track for completion in the first quarter of 2026. He added that urban rehabilitation efforts will be expanded to improve the physical environment of key towns and cities.

Digital Transformation for Judiciary

As part of reforms in the justice sector, the government plans to deploy digital case management systems across courts in the state to improve efficiency and ensure faster dispensation of justice.

House Pledges Swift Passage

In his remarks, Speaker Usman Muhammad commended the governor for executing people-focused projects under the 2025 budget, describing the relationship between the executive and the legislature as “cordial and collaborative.”

He assured that the 2026 appropriation bill will be passed next week, paving the way for timely implementation of the state’s development agenda.
