According to an official statement, the Divisional Police Officer of the Eruku Division, alongside his team and local vigilantes, immediately mobilised after hearing gunshots from the outskirts of the town. Their rapid response forced the attackers to flee into the surrounding bush.

A search of the area led to the discovery of two victims who had been fatally shot.
