A grieving family in Lagos has shared the
heartbreaking account of how their 17-year-old son, Thompson Adams Omokafe, was
allegedly lured, abducted, and killed by a former classmate and his
accomplices.
The incident was confirmed by the Lagos State
Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, during a press briefing at the command
headquarters in Ikeja on April 29, 2026.
According to police findings, Thompson had just
completed the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on April
22 when he was reportedly invited to an apartment by suspects identified as
Elijah Emmanuel, 23, and Tony Ogenata, 21. It was there, authorities say, that
he was killed.
However, the family’s account presents a more chilling
sequence of events. In a statement, they alleged that the suspects murdered
Thompson and disposed of his body in a canal in Awoyaya before fleeing to
Ikorodu, where they were later apprehended.
The family explained that Thompson had left home that
day to visit Elijah, who had invited him multiple times in the past. Concern
grew when he failed to return and his phone became unreachable. The following
morning, his sister, Lovett, reported him missing to the police.
While at the station, the family reportedly received a
message from Thompson’s phone instructing them to download an app, claiming he
had been kidnapped. Soon after, a ransom demand of N150 million was made.
The family said they had to pay for additional
tracking efforts by police, which eventually led to the arrest of the suspects
with the help of the anti-kidnapping unit.
According to the family, the suspects later confessed
to targeting Thompson from a young age because they believed his family was
wealthy. They alleged that he was restrained, filmed, and killed before the
ransom demand was even issued.
The tragic loss has left the family devastated, as
they called for justice and urged the public to raise awareness to prevent
similar incidents.
They expressed hope that sharing Thompson’s story
would lead to stronger action against such crimes and help protect other
families from experiencing similar tragedies.
