The Diocese of the Niger has suspended Reverend
Ifunanya Maduka of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Nteje, in Anambra State over
allegations of staging fake miracles and delivering false prophecies.
In a suspension letter dated April 27, 2026, the
Bishop on the Niger, Owen Nwokolo, announced that the cleric would be placed on
a six-month suspension without pay. The decision followed findings that Rev.
Maduka was involved in actions deemed grossly inappropriate for an ordained
minister.
According to the Church, the priest allegedly
orchestrated and manipulated prophetic acts and miracles by using individuals
he knew and reportedly paid, presenting them as genuine divine manifestations.
The Diocese stated that when confronted with evidence, the cleric admitted to
engaging in the practices.
The Church described his conduct as a serious
violation of ecclesiastical and moral standards, accusing him of false
prophecy, misuse of God’s name, deception of worshippers, and actions that
could amount to obtaining money under false pretences.
It further noted that such behaviour contradicts
Christian doctrine, Anglican discipline, and the ethical expectations of
clergy, adding that the incident has brought disrepute to the Church and its
leadership.
The suspension takes immediate effect, with Rev.
Maduka directed to hand over all church property and responsibilities to the
People’s Warden. He has also been instructed to vacate the church premises
within four days.
The Diocese confirmed that a disciplinary panel will
be set up to conduct a full investigation and determine any further actions in
line with church regulations.
