Maria Sol Messi, sister of football superstar Lionel
Messi, has been forced to postpone her upcoming wedding after sustaining
serious injuries in a traffic accident in Miami.
The 32-year-old suffered multiple injuries, including
spinal fractures, a fractured heel and wrist, and burns. Argentinian journalist
Angel de Brito reported that Maria Sol is “out of danger” but will require a
lengthy rehabilitation period.
The accident occurred when Maria Sol, driving in
Miami, lost control of her vehicle and collided with a wall. Speaking on the
American TV programme LAM, de Brito said:
"Messi’s sister is okay, she’s out of danger, but I was checking things
with the family because she was due to get married in Rosario in Argentina on
January 3, and she’s going to have to suspend it."
Her recovery has begun in her hometown of Rosario,
where she is receiving treatment for both burns and spinal injuries. De Brito
added that the Messi family confirmed the severity of her injuries and that the
wedding has now been postponed.
Maria Sol was set to marry Julian “Tuli” Arellano, a
member of Inter Miami’s under-19 coaching staff. The couple met as children,
growing up in the same neighborhood, and the Messi family—including Lionel and
his wife Antonela Roccuzzo—were expected to attend the ceremony.
Maria Sol, a clothing designer and entrepreneur,
previously lived in Spain before returning to Argentina to focus on her
projects. She worked as a brand manager at The Messi Store, the clothing
brand founded by her brother, alongside Virginia Hilfiger, sister of designer
Tommy Hilfiger.
While her condition is stable, Maria Sol will require
extensive rehabilitation before rescheduling the wedding.
