Members of the Nigeria Super Eagles were all smiles as
the federal government finally fulfilled its pledge of housing and land in
recognition of their silver-winning performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of
Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that
the players received certificates for the promised plots of land and flats,
which were handed over at the team’s camp in Fez, Morocco, on Monday.
The Super Eagles finished second at the 2023 AFCON,
held in early 2024, narrowly losing 2–1 to hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final.
Previously, President Bola Tinubu had honoured every squad member with the
Member of the Order of Niger (MON) award and pledged each player a plot of land
in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) along with a residential flat.
The Super Eagles are now focused on the 2025 AFCON
campaign, starting with their Group C opener against Tanzania on Tuesday. They
will then face Tunisia on December 27 before concluding the group stage against
Uganda on December 30.
In a show of continued support, the NFF also gifted
players and team officials Bay Ice x NFF Custom Edition wristwatches,
symbolising the federation’s encouragement as they pursue continental glory in
Morocco.
