Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is set to
miss the club’s upcoming fixture against Chelsea FC after being given an
additional one-match suspension.
The decision follows a misconduct charge by the
Football Association, which was upheld after Maguire was found to have used
abusive or insulting language toward a match official. The incident reportedly
occurred after his dismissal during United’s game against Bournemouth last
month.
The England international had already served a
suspension, missing the recent defeat to Leeds United. However, this new
sanction extends his time on the sidelines at a crucial point in the season.
The situation is further complicated for United, as
Lisandro Martinez is also facing a three-match ban for violent conduct
following his red card in the Leeds match.
With both defenders unavailable, Manchester United
could face defensive challenges heading into the high-stakes encounter.
Currently sitting third in the league standings, United hold a seven-point lead
over sixth-placed Chelsea, who are pushing for a Champions League spot.
