Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has declared his intention to defend himself against allegations of wrongdoing, insisting he remains proud of his record in office.

Speaking in a Hausa interview, Malami alleged that his fundamental rights were breached during the investigation, claiming security operatives searched his residences and business premises without his consent or prior notice.

He revealed that he had been held by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, detained at Kuje Prison, and also questioned by the Department of State Services.

According to him, while he accepts the situation as part of God’s will, he will strongly challenge the allegations in court. He emphasized that the law grants him the right to be present during any search of his property to ensure transparency and accountability.

Malami maintained that he has no regrets about his actions while serving as minister.

He, alongside his wife, Bashir Asabe, and son, Abdulaziz, is currently facing a 16-count charge related to alleged money laundering filed by the EFCC. The family has, however, pleaded not guilty to all charges.
