The Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar has called on Nigeria’s
military to intensify its operations against terrorism following the recent
deadly bomb attacks in Maiduguri.
He made this appeal on Wednesday while announcing
Friday as Eid-el-Fitr, which signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The call comes in the wake of coordinated bomb
explosions in Maiduguri on Monday that claimed at least 23 lives and injured
over 100 people. The attacks targeted a busy market, the entrance of the
University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Post Office flyover.
Condemning the incident, the Sultan urged security
agencies to shift from a reactive to a proactive strategy by taking the battle
directly to terrorist enclaves rather than waiting for attacks to occur.
He described the bombings as contrary to Islamic
teachings, stressing that such acts of violence have no place in Islam.
The Sultan also urged the government to demonstrate
stronger political commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the
country, irrespective of religion or ethnicity.
He further encouraged Nigerians to embrace peace,
unity, and mutual coexistence, emphasizing that national progress can only
thrive in a secure and harmonious environment.
