A man identified as Gozie has allegedly killed his
lover’s only son in Uli community following repeated disputes over their
relationship.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday night,
March 15, 2026, when the victim, said to be in his 20s, was attacked in his
room after ongoing disagreements with the suspect, who frequently visited his
mother.
Residents said tensions between the two had persisted
for some time, often leading to heated arguments. An eyewitness, Somto,
explained that suspicion arose when neighbours did not see anyone in the
compound for days.
Upon checking the premises, residents discovered the
young man’s lifeless body with severe machete wounds. The discovery drew a
crowd, and local youths immediately launched a search for the suspect and the
victim’s mother, who had both fled.
The matter was reported to the police, and the
victim’s remains were deposited in a morgue.
Further reports indicate that the relationship between
the suspect and the victim’s mother had been a source of ongoing conflict,
especially as the man began staying overnight at the residence. It is alleged
that the suspect attacked the victim while he was asleep before fleeing the
scene with the woman.
The incident sparked outrage among youths from the
neighbouring Egbu community, who reportedly carried the corpse through parts of
the area while demanding justice. The situation later escalated, with some
youths allegedly attacking the suspect’s family compound and setting buildings
ablaze.
A community elder condemned both the killing and the
retaliatory violence, warning against mob action and calling for calm.
Police sources in the area confirmed that the case is
under investigation and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation
and Intelligence Department. Authorities added that the main suspects remain at
large, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend them and determine the full
circumstances surrounding the incident.
