Manchester City produced a dramatic late turnaround to defeat Southampton FC and secure a place in their fourth consecutive FA Cup final.

The Saints looked set for a famous upset when Finn Azaz fired them ahead with a superb strike 11 minutes from time, putting the Championship side within touching distance of their first FA Cup final since 2003.

However, City responded swiftly to avoid the kind of shock elimination suffered by Arsenal earlier in the competition. Jérémy Doku equalized with a deflected effort before Nico González sealed the comeback with a powerful long-range finish just three minutes from full time.

The defeat brought an end to Southampton’s impressive 20-match unbeaten run, which had boosted their push for a return to the Premier League. Having already knocked out Arsenal in the previous round, they will feel disappointed to have come so close to a Wembley final.

City manager Pep Guardiola had rotated heavily, making eight changes from the side that defeated Burnley in the league. Key players such as Erling Haaland, Bernardo Silva, and Doku started on the bench, and City initially struggled to find rhythm.

Southampton nearly took an early lead through Leo Scienza, but the goal was ruled out for offside. City improved significantly after the break, with substitutes including Doku, Savinho, and Nico O’Reilly adding attacking spark.

Despite missing earlier chances, City’s persistence paid off late on. After Azaz’s opener, Doku’s strike took a deflection to beat goalkeeper Daniel Peretz, before González’s powerful effort completed the turnaround.

City could have added a third in stoppage time, but Southampton managed a last-ditch clearance to keep the scoreline respectable.

The victory keeps Manchester City on track for a potential domestic treble, as they aim to replicate their historic 2018/19 achievement of winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup in a single season.
