The Lagos State Government has announced the closure of the Marine Bridge in Ijora, Apapa Local Government Area, for 15 days to allow essential maintenance works by the Federal Ministry of Works.

The disclosure was made in a statement posted on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Thursday.

“The Lagos State Government wishes to inform the general public that the Marine Bridge in Ijora, Apapa Local Government Area, will be closed for 15 days to allow for essential maintenance works,” the statement read in part.

Motorists were urged to plan their journeys and exercise patience, as the temporary closure forms part of a traffic management plan for repair works on the bridge’s underlying bearings.

Phased Repairs and Diversions

The bridge maintenance will take place in two phases:

  • Phase I runs from Saturday, October 11 to Saturday, October 18, 2025, covering the section from the foot of Marine Bridge along Lawani Oguntayo Road near UBA, inbound Apapa and Costain.
    • Motorists from Ijora Olopa to Apapa will be diverted through the Ijora Causeway Access Ramp near Omni Retail Company, continue to Ijora 7up, turn left onto the Lilypond Access Ramp, and proceed toward Apapa.
  • Phase II runs from Sunday, October 19 to Saturday, October 25, 2025, focusing on the stretch between Ijora Badia and Lilypond Access Ramp, inbound Apapa.
    • Motorists from Ijora Olopa heading toward Apapa or Costain will be diverted about 50 meters before the work zone into a contraflow lane, rejoining the main carriageway after about 500 meters.
    • Those coming from Apapa toward Costain, Lagos Island, or Ijora Olopa will also experience a short contraflow near the work zone before resuming normal access.

Additional Roadworks

The government also warned that other major road maintenance projects would run concurrently, including repairs on the Adeniji Adele Interchange–CMS corridor, beginning Sunday, October 12, 2025, and lasting six weeks.

The repairs, also supervised by the Federal Ministry of Works, will take place daily between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., with one lane closed at a time to ease traffic. The project is expected to conclude on Sunday, November 23, 2025.
