Inter Miami CF head coach Javier Mascherano has
stepped down from his role, citing personal reasons, just four months after
guiding the club to its first-ever MLS Cup title.
The Argentine manager informed the club of his
decision following a 2-2 draw against the New York Red Bulls over the weekend.
The club later confirmed his resignation in an official statement on Tuesday.
Inter Miami announced that Guillermo Hoyos will
temporarily take charge of the first team, transitioning from his current
position as sporting director for upcoming fixtures.
In his farewell message, Mascherano expressed
gratitude to the club, staff, and especially the players, acknowledging their
collective effort in achieving memorable milestones during his tenure.
The former Lionel Messi teammate at both Argentina and
FC Barcelona, Mascherano spent nearly 18 months in charge after succeeding
Gerardo Martino in November 2024.
During his time at the club, he led Inter Miami to
notable successes, including reaching the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinal and
the Leagues Cup final. His most significant achievement came in 2025, when he
guided the team to their maiden MLS Cup victory.
Club owner Jorge Mas praised Mascherano’s impact,
describing him as a key figure in the club’s progress and success. He noted
that the coach’s leadership and dedication would leave a lasting legacy within
the team, while also expressing full support for his decision and wishing him
well in the future.
