Diego Simeone has expressed strong belief that
Atletico Madrid are ready to claim their first-ever UEFA Champions League title
after eliminating FC Barcelona to reach the semi-finals.
Despite a 2-1 loss in the second leg at home, Atletico
advanced with a 3-2 aggregate victory, having secured a crucial 2-0 win at Camp
Nou in the first leg.
The Spanish side will now face either Arsenal FC or
Sporting CP in the semi-finals as they continue their pursuit of European
glory.
Speaking after the match, Simeone emphasized the
team’s belief and determination, noting that they are fully aware of both their
strengths and areas for improvement. He stated that the squad is prepared to
chase the title they have long desired.
Atletico Madrid have come close in the past, reaching
the Champions League finals in 2014 and 2016, both times losing to city rivals
Real Madrid. Their last semi-final appearance before now came in 2017.
Reflecting on his long tenure, Simeone highlighted the
team’s resilience and consistency, pointing out that despite multiple rebuilds
and changes in personnel over the years, Atletico remain among Europe’s elite
clubs competing at the highest level.
