The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has released the 2025 June/July National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) examination results, showing significant improvement in candidates’ performance, particularly in Mathematics.

Announcing the results on Thursday in Abuja, NABTEB Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mohammed Mohammed, said the outcome reflects rising enrolments and better preparation among candidates.

Stronger Results in Mathematics, Decline in English

According to him, 85,805 candidates sat for Mathematics, with 81,172 (94.60%) passing and 4,633 (5.40%) failing, an improvement over 2024 when 91.39% passed and 8.61% failed.

However, performance in English Language showed a decline. Of 85,476 candidates graded, 79,575 (93.10%) passed, while 5,901 (6.90%) failed, compared to 2024’s 95.87% pass rate.

Enrolment Surge and Gender Breakdown

A total of 92,875 candidates registered, up 37.08% from 2024. Of these, 89,621 were graded, representing 96.5% of enrolments. Male candidates numbered 57,651 (62.07%), while 35,224 (37.93%) were females.

The registrar said this growth was also reflected in the 10.77% increase in examination centres nationwide.

Drop in Malpractice Cases

Cases of examination malpractice fell slightly, with 435 candidates (0.47%) involved in 516 cases, compared to 524 cases in 2024 involving 349 candidates (0.52%).

Dr. Mohammed attributed the improvement to strengthened monitoring and commended the Federal Ministry of Education for supporting Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Skills, Not Just Certificates

The NABTEB boss urged Nigerians to value skills-based knowledge over paper qualifications, noting that the board’s work aligns with President Tinubu’s vision of equipping youths with 21st-century skills to close industry gaps.

He also announced the commencement of registration for the 2025 November/December NBC/NTC and Advanced NBC/NTC examinations, urging prospective candidates to visit novdec.nabteb.gov.ng or NABTEB offices nationwide for registration.

Repositioning Vocational Education

NABTEB has begun reviewing 26 trade syllabi for technical colleges across the country. The revision covers both traditional fields such as Electrical Installation, Plumbing, and Fashion Design, as well as emerging disciplines like robotics, coding, machine learning, smart agriculture, renewable energy, and cinematography.

This marks the first major syllabus overhaul in over a decade and is expected to boost graduate employability, deepen practical training, and strengthen Nigeria’s TVET system in line with global best practices.
