In a recent interview with TVC , Senate
Deputy Chief Whip Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi strongly criticized Senator
Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, claiming her initial electoral victory was due to
voters being unaware of her true character.
Nwebonyi argued that Akpoti’s conduct in the Senate
has now revealed her true nature, accusing her of disregarding the chamber’s
rules. He stated, “She won that election because the people didn’t know her
character. But now she has brought her character to the public view. This is a
lady who disrespects the Senate’s rules.”
He further alleged that Akpoti frequently displays
disrespectful behavior, specifically by failing to adhere to Senate traditions.
One key example he mentioned was her refusal to stand in plenary sessions when
the presiding officer and principal officers enter, a protocol expected of all
senators.
His remarks have sparked debates about the conduct and
responsibilities of elected officials in Nigeria.
