All items totaled 25,381.495kg.
Deputy Director of General Operations at the NDLEA
Headquarters, Muhammed Usman, who represented the agency’s Chairman/CEO,
Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), said the destruction
exercise was approved by the Federal High Court in Birnin Kebbi, in accordance
with Section 3(1) of the NDLEA Act.
“This occasion signifies a major achievement in our
ongoing efforts to curb substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in the
country,” he said.
Marwa noted that the public destruction of the
exhibits demonstrates the agency’s unwavering commitment to building a
drug-free nation, adding that it also serves as a warning to individuals and
groups involved in illegal drug activities.
He stressed that drug abuse continues to fuel serious
crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and banditry across Nigeria.
Earlier, the Kebbi State NDLEA Commander, Rabiu
Abdullahi Sokoto, highlighted that Kebbi’s strategic location has made it a
transit corridor for drug traffickers.
“Our state’s porous borders with Niger Republic to the
north and Benin Republic to the west have increased the inflow of illicit
substances into our great nation through the state,” he said.
