The Katsina State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reassured residents of the state of its continued commitment to combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

The State Commander, Samaila Danmalam, gave the assurance on Tuesday during the Command’s end-of-year press conference, which also featured the decoration ceremony of 61 officers recently promoted to various ranks.

Danmalam noted that the fight against drug abuse requires collective responsibility and stronger collaboration among stakeholders. He stressed the need for enhanced synergy through intelligence sharing, advocacy, and community policing to reduce drug-related crimes and sustain peace in Katsina State.

According to him, NDLEA operatives carried out intelligence-led raids and patrols across the state in 2025, leading to the arrest of numerous suspects involved in drug-related offences and the disruption of several illicit drug networks.

He disclosed that within the year under review, the Command arrested a total of 1,018 suspects, comprising 992 males and 26 females.

Substances seized included 1,667.747kg of cannabis, 12.348kg of codeine, and 793.66kg of psychotropic substances, bringing the total weight of drugs seized to 2,473.755kg.

Danmalam also highlighted the impact of the NDLEA’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative, led by the agency’s Chairman, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd). He said the programme recorded 203 sensitisation activities reaching 75,135 people, with 451 clients counselled and 58 admitted for rehabilitation.

On prosecution efforts, the Commander said 86 suspects were arraigned in court, while 87 convictions were secured during the year.

Despite the achievements, Danmalam acknowledged that the Command faces logistical challenges, including a shortage of operational vehicles, inadequate office infrastructure, and insufficient accommodation for officers across the state.

He appealed to government, stakeholders, and philanthropists for support to help address these challenges and strengthen the agency’s operations.
