Nigeria’s Super Eagles will face Lesotho in a crucial 2026
FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday, October 10, at the New Peter Mokaba
Stadium in Polokwane. The match kicks off at 6:00 p.m. local time (5:00
p.m. in Nigeria) and will be broadcast live on DStv SuperSport,
SportyBet TV, and AfroSport.
This encounter marks Nigeria’s final chance to
keep their qualification hopes alive after a difficult campaign. The Super
Eagles currently sit third in Group C with 11 points and a +2
goal difference, trailing Benin and South Africa, who both
have 14 points.
Nigeria’s path brightened when South Africa was penalized
for fielding an ineligible player, narrowing the gap at the top of the
group. To stay in contention, the Super Eagles must avoid defeat in both
of their remaining fixtures — starting with Lesotho — while also hoping South
Africa drop points in their upcoming games against Zimbabwe and Rwanda.
Lesotho, who held Nigeria to a 1-1 draw in Uyo
on November 16, 2023, will look to cause another upset at home.
Historically, Nigeria have dominated this fixture, winning two of their last
three meetings since 2019.
So far, Nigeria’s qualification run has been inconsistent,
with two wins, five draws, and one loss, while Lesotho have recorded two
wins, three draws, and three defeats.
With the race for Group C’s top spot tightening,
Friday’s showdown in Polokwane could determine whether the Super Eagles soar
toward the World Cup or miss out for a second consecutive tournament.
