The Federal Government on Monday launched an integrated
national measles and rubella vaccination campaign aimed at eliminating the
diseases in Nigeria by 2030.
The event, held at the Banquet Hall of the State
House in Abuja, brought together key stakeholders, including traditional
rulers, religious leaders, and international development partners.
The campaign seeks to strengthen routine
immunization, enhance surveillance and outbreak response, and
integrate measles and rubella initiatives into the nation’s primary
health care system. It also promotes the adoption of innovative
technologies to boost vaccination coverage.
According to health authorities, the exercise targets 16
million children between the ages of nine months and 14 years with
the Measles Rubella (MR) vaccines.
Notable dignitaries at the launch included the Sultan
of Sokoto, His Eminence Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye
Enitan Ogunwusi, and the President of the Christian Association of
Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh, alongside representatives of international
development partners.
