The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has
announced that the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) will officially
resume operations on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, after weeks of
temporary suspension for repairs and maintenance.
The NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus
Unyimadu, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the
suspension was necessary to enable the corporation to conduct critical
repairs, system checks, and maintenance on the tracks and rolling stock.
“The temporary suspension was necessary to carry out
critical repairs, maintenance, and system checks on the tracks and rolling
stock to ensure the comfort, reliability, and safety of passengers,” the
statement read.
Unyimadu said the resumption aligns with NRC’s
commitment to providing safe, reliable, and efficient rail services,
adding that the online booking portal will reopen by 12 noon on
Monday, October 27, via https://nrc-fane.ng.
He encouraged passengers to secure their tickets early
through the online platform or at designated stations, noting that operations
will commence with seven coaches — six standard class and one business
class.
The corporation will also release a new train
timetable on Monday, incorporating temporary speed restrictions (TSR)
for safety and operational monitoring.
While apologising for the inconvenience caused during
the suspension, Unyimadu thanked passengers and stakeholders for their patience
and understanding.
The NRC’s Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa,
assured the travelling public of the corporation’s renewed commitment to
delivering safe and efficient rail services on the Warri–Itakpe corridor.
