The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested suspected
armed robbers who allegedly attacked a business premises in Azare, Katagum
Local Government Area of the state.
Disclosing this to journalists on Sunday in Bauchi,
the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmad Wakil, said the
incident occurred on Saturday following a distress call from a resident
of the Gandum Wambai area in Azare.
“The caller reported that armed individuals had
invaded his business premises, GKY Food and Oil Mills, and fled with a
motorcycle after threatening the occupants with firearms,” Wakil said.
According to him, operatives from the Azare
Divisional Police Headquarters, in collaboration with local vigilantes,
swiftly responded and pursued the suspects. The chase led to their arrest at
Lafiya village, along the Lafiya–Gwasame Road.
Items recovered from the suspects include two
locally made guns and the stolen Bajaj motorcycle.
Wakil said the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori
Aliyu, commended the officers and members of the vigilance group for their
prompt and coordinated action.
“He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining
proactive measures against crime and ensuring the protection of lives and
property across the state,” Wakil added.
He further disclosed that investigations were ongoing
to determine whether the suspects were part of a larger criminal network.
The police spokesman urged residents to remain
vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to security agencies to
help maintain peace and order across the state.
