Prominent Nigerian political figures, including Peter
Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have called on authorities to
move beyond condemnation and take decisive steps to tackle insecurity following
a deadly attack in Plateau State.
In separate reactions, the leaders expressed concern
over the frequency of violent incidents across the country, stressing the need
for urgent and sustained action.
Obi described the situation as unacceptable, noting
that repeated attacks without effective intervention point to a lack of
decisive strategy. He emphasised that the protection of lives must be treated
as a top priority and urged leaders to act swiftly to prevent further
tragedies.
Similarly, Atiku condemned the incident, describing it
as disturbing and reflective of a system that has failed to guarantee the
safety of citizens. He argued that repeated statements without concrete action
are no longer sufficient, calling for stronger political will to address the
crisis.
Kwankwaso also criticised the state of security,
stating that the recurring violence highlights deeper leadership challenges and
a growing culture of impunity. He urged authorities to treat the situation as a
national emergency and ensure citizens can live without fear, regardless of
background or beliefs.
The reactions followed an attack in Anguwan Rukuba,
Jos North Local Government Area, where gunmen reportedly opened fire at a bar
and restaurant, killing at least 28 people and injuring several others.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage and
protests among residents, further intensifying calls for improved security
measures across the country.
