A United States lawmaker, Barry Moore, has expressed
concern over recent killings in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area
of Plateau State, describing the incident as part of a troubling pattern of
violence.
In a post shared on X, Moore referenced reports that
at least 10 people were killed during an attack on Sunday, which coincided with
Palm Sunday observances.
The lawmaker, who previously participated in a U.S.
fact-finding delegation on security issues in Nigeria, stated that such
incidents appear to occur repeatedly during major religious periods, urging
Nigerian authorities to take proactive steps to prevent further attacks.
He called on the Federal Government to strengthen
security arrangements ahead of upcoming religious events, including Easter,
warning that failure to act decisively could have broader implications.
The attack in Plateau is the latest in a series of
violent incidents affecting parts of North-Central and North-West Nigeria,
where communities have continued to face insecurity linked to armed groups.
Earlier in March, another attack reportedly left about
20 people dead in parts of Jos, following an ambush on security personnel and
local defenders, according to community sources.
These developments highlight ongoing security
challenges in Nigeria, where authorities continue efforts to address insurgency
and other forms of violence across multiple regions.
