Vice President Kashim Shettima has hailed the
defection of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi
Okowa, and their supporters from the PDP to the APC as a “political tsunami of
unimaginable proportion.”
Speaking at a formal reception in Asaba, Shettima
described the move as historic for the South-South and welcomed the new members
as full co-owners of the APC. He emphasized unity, equality, and dialogue as
core principles of the ruling party.
APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, called
the defection a legacy moment and credited President Tinubu’s leadership for
attracting credible leaders. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma praised the
development strides in Delta under Oborevwori, saying the state now reflects
APC values.
Okowa stated the shift was driven by a desire to align
Delta with federal opportunities, while Oborevwori said the move was a
collective decision to join the “Renewed Hope Agenda.” He assured that all
party structures and elected officials in the state would follow suit, pledging
unity within Delta APC.
