Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has been
conferred with the traditional title Utukpa-Oritse (also known as Ugbone,
meaning “Light of God”) by the Olu of Warri Kingdom, Ogiame Atuwatse III.
The conferment ceremony took place on Thursday in
Warri, Delta State, where the monarch formally received the First Lady.
According to a statement issued by her Senior Special Assistant on Media,
Busola Kukoyi, the honour recognises Senator Tinubu’s contributions to women’s
empowerment and social welfare initiatives.
With maternal roots in Warri, the First Lady described
the title as deeply symbolic and a reaffirmation of her commitment to service.
Speaking at the event, she emphasised national unity
and social cohesion, urging Nigerians to look beyond ethnic, religious, and
political divides.
“The Bible tells us in Psalm 133, verses 1 to 3, that
it is pleasant to dwell together in unity, for there is where God commanded
blessings,” she said.
She also assured residents of continued federal
support and commended the efforts of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori,
noting that he had been doing “a good job so far in the state.”
?50 Million Support for Women Traders
As part of her outreach under the Renewed Hope
Initiative, the First Lady donated ?50 million to support 1,000 women petty
traders in the Warri Kingdom.
Governor Oborevwori, who attended the ceremony,
described her as compassionate and consistent in her engagement with the state,
noting that she had visited Delta on three occasions to flag off programmes,
including women’s empowerment initiatives and the Free to Shine
campaign.
“May God continue to empower you to continue to put
smiles on the faces of more Nigerians,” he said.
In his remarks, Ogiame Atuwatse III urged citizens to
set aside past grievances in the interest of peace and development, expressing
pride in the First Lady’s achievements.
“We are proud of who you are and who you have become…
Thank you for being a very good example to our girls and women,” the monarch
stated.
Dignitaries at the event included former Delta State
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, members of the state executive council, traditional
rulers, and community leaders.
