The Senate has resolved to request the removal of the
Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) following repeated
failure to appear before the Senate Committee on Finance.
The decision was taken after a motion was moved by
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu during a session where the President’s economic team
appeared before the committee.
Proceedings reportedly began on a tense note as
lawmakers expressed displeasure over the absence of the CAC Registrar-General,
who had been invited to provide explanations regarding the commission’s
operations and revenue profile.
Moving the motion, Kalu criticised what he described
as the agency head’s persistent refusal to honour invitations.
“Since I came to the Senate, he has always given
excuses that he is in the Villa,” Kalu said.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance,
Senator Sani Musa, also raised concerns about unresolved discrepancies in the
reconciliation of the commission’s revenues, noting that the Registrar-General
had repeatedly failed to appear to clarify the issues.
Supporting the motion, Senator Adams Oshiomhole
suggested that the Senate consider further action by withholding approval of
the CAC’s 2026 budget until the concerns are addressed.
Following deliberations, the Senate adopted the motion
calling on the President to remove the CAC Registrar-General.
