Senator Francis Fadahunsi has declared his opposition
to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, saying a change in leadership is
necessary ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Fadahunsi, who spoke during an interview on Channels
Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, said he previously supported
Adeleke because he believed the governor understood what was expected of him in
office. However, he said his assessment of Adeleke’s administration had since
changed.
The senator argued that if a leader was chosen based
on a wrong judgment, voters should be willing to make a change.
“If there was an error of judgement in choosing a
leader, automatically, you have to change,” Fadahunsi said, accusing the
governor of failing to meet the expectations of the people.
He further criticised Adeleke’s record in office and
claimed that only those benefiting from the administration were satisfied with
his performance.
Fadahunsi also accused the governor of being
controlled by other individuals, saying he would not conceal his opposition to
the administration.
“He is just like a robot, AI, being controlled by all
of them. I don’t hide my feelings. He is not fit to be there,” the senator
said.
He further claimed that some individuals previously
associated with Adeleke were now moving to his political camp because of their
dissatisfaction with the governor’s administration.
According to Fadahunsi, the alleged marginalisation of
his senatorial district had also influenced his decision to oppose the
governor.
Fadahunsi Denies ‘Killer Squad’ Allegation
The senator also denied allegations that he
established a group of armed men, described as a “killer squad,” at a hotel in
Osogbo to attack members of the Accord Party and other opposition groups.
The allegation followed the circulation of a video on
social media in which comments attributed to Fadahunsi were interpreted by some
as a call for violence against political opponents.
Responding to the allegation, the senator dismissed
the claim and questioned why he would establish such a group.
“Which group? How will I rent somebody’s house and
make it a terrorist house? … Have I ever killed anybody? Where is the killer
squad?” he asked.
Fadahunsi also denied calling for the killing of
political opponents, stressing that members of the Accord Party, Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) were all his
constituents.
“I don’t preach violence,” he said, adding that his
comments were aimed at condemning violence rather than encouraging it.
The senator described the viral video as manipulated
and accused his political opponents of attempting to portray him as someone who
supports violence.
The controversy comes ahead of the Osun State
governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Governor Adeleke is seeking another term, while the
APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, is among the leading challengers in the
election.
The campaign has been characterised by heightened
political tensions, allegations of intimidation and concerns over political
violence, leading to increased security preparations across the state.
More than 25,000 security personnel are expected to be
deployed for the poll, while the Independent National Electoral Commission
(INEC) has said preparations for the election remain on course.
