The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed a widely
circulated report claiming to contain confidential details of its ongoing
investigation into the recent abduction incident in Ahoro-Esiele, Oriire Local
Government Area, describing the publication as false, misleading, and
potentially harmful to security operations.
In a statement issued on Friday, June 5, the Police
Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the report—which
allegedly revealed the identities of suspects, intercepted communications, and
financial transaction records linked to the case—did not originate from the
police or any authorised security agency.
According to the Command, the publication contained
several unverified allegations and technical claims that were neither released
nor endorsed by the authorities conducting the investigation.
"The Command wishes to categorically state that
the said publication is misleading, speculative, and not an official security
report," Ayanlade stated.
He emphasized that investigations into the abduction
remain active and are being handled through intelligence-driven strategies,
making it essential to keep sensitive operational information confidential.
Ayanlade explained that details such as the identities
of suspects, investigative leads, communication records, and financial
intelligence are deliberately protected to avoid compromising ongoing efforts
and to ensure the successful arrest and prosecution of those responsible.
He noted that the release of such information could
jeopardize field operations and hinder the progress of the investigation.
The police spokesperson also cautioned bloggers,
social media users, and online publishers against disseminating unverified
reports or security-sensitive information, warning that such actions could
create unnecessary panic among residents and undermine law enforcement efforts.
According to him, the Command will not hesitate to
invoke the full provisions of the law against any individual or group found
deliberately spreading false information, interfering with investigations, or
attempting to obstruct security operations.
"The Oyo State Police Command will not hesitate
to apply the full weight of the law against any individual or group found
deliberately circulating false information, interfering with investigations, or
attempting to obstruct ongoing security operations," he warned.
The Command urged members of the public to rely only
on official police channels and verified sources for updates regarding the
abduction case and other security matters within the state.
Reassuring residents of its commitment to public
safety, the police said efforts are ongoing to identify, apprehend, and
prosecute all individuals connected to the crime.
The Command reiterated its determination to ensure
that justice is served while maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of
ongoing investigations.
