The Technical Director of the Para-powerlifting
Federation of Nigeria, Mr. Ruel Ishaku, has assured that the federation will
closely monitor and support new and emerging talents identified at the 9th
National Youth Games (NYG), currently taking place at the Stephen Keshi
Stadium, Asaba, Delta State.
Speaking to sports journalists on Tuesday, September
2, 2025, Ishaku praised the performance of the young athletes who took part in
the para-powerlifting event, describing them as resilient, determined, and full
of potential.
According to him, the NYG has provided the federation
with a platform to uncover promising champions who could grow into national
icons and represent Nigeria on the international stage. He emphasized that
deliberate efforts will be made to nurture their skills through structured
national programmes.
“These athletes have shown remarkable courage and
strength. The National Youth Games have given us the chance to discover and
groom talents who will be monitored, supported, and guided as they develop into
stars capable of bringing glory to Nigeria,” Ishaku stated.
He added that the federation will organize development
programmes designed to improve the athletes’ fitness levels, introduce them to
new training techniques, and prepare them for bigger challenges ahead.
Ishaku also commended the Delta State Government for
successfully hosting the Games, urging them to sustain their investment in
sports as a means of promoting growth both within the state and across the
country.
