The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a significant
breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping, following the arrest of six
suspected criminals and the rescue of several victims in Kaduna State.
The operation, carried out by the Force Intelligence
Department Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS), led to the arrest of Yusuf Shuaibu
(23), Abubakar Bature (19), Yau Murtala, Bello Suleiman (19), Abdul Kareem Nuhu
(36), and Ahmed Musa (28) on April 3, 2026.
Confirming the development, police spokesperson
Anthony Placid said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are
part of a kidnapping syndicate operating across Kaduna State, with links to
criminal hideouts in the Rijana Forest.
According to him, the group has been involved in
multiple abductions, including the kidnapping of a senior police officer and
his son in October 2025. Despite collecting a ransom of ?24 million and other
valuables, the victims were not released until police operatives intervened,
successfully rescuing the officer’s son unharmed. Efforts are still ongoing to
secure the release of the officer.
The suspects have also been linked to other kidnapping
incidents, including the abduction of a child and members of the same family,
where a ransom of ?18 million was paid before their eventual rescue through
coordinated police action.
Police authorities say investigations are ongoing to
track down other members of the syndicate who are still at large, rescue any
remaining victims, and recover weapons used by the group.
