The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has reaffirmed that the activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, remains wanted by the police.

Jimoh, who appeared on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, said the police would take all lawful measures to arrest Sowore, who is accused of “causing a disturbance of public peace” and planning to obstruct traffic on Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge.

“My declaration that Sowore is wanted is still in force,” the Police Commissioner said.

He explained that Sowore’s lawyer had contacted him via text message on Monday, indicating that the activist would report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), but noted that he had failed to do so.

“Throughout yesterday, he has failed to report, and we are going to do everything within the ambit of the law to get him arrested, investigated, and prosecuted for these offences,” Jimoh stated.

The commissioner maintained that he acted within his powers to declare Sowore wanted and urged anyone disputing the move to seek legal redress.

Denies ‘Shoot on Sight’ Order

Jimoh also dismissed Sowore’s claim that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, had issued an order for him to be shot on sight.

He described the allegation as “false, mischievous, and a major misinformation,” insisting that the IGP would never issue such an order.

“The Inspector General of Police will never give such an order and has never given such an order,” Jimoh said. “That is where people will know that Sowore, in all ramifications, is planning, and has even begun to put plans in place, to cause mayhem across Lagos.”

The Police Commissioner said the claim was intended to incite public unrest, stressing that the police would continue to uphold law and order across Lagos State.
