The Governing Council of the Federal University of
Education, Kontagora (FUEK) has appointed Professor Rasheed Haruna
as the institution’s first substantive Vice Chancellor.
The announcement was made by the Pro-Chancellor and
Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Francis Faduyile,
following the Council’s fifth meeting held in Kontagora.
Professor Faduyile told journalists that Haruna
emerged successful after a rigorous selection process involving six shortlisted
candidates.
“Professor Haruna brings a wealth of experience,
having served as Acting Vice Chancellor, Provost, and Chairman of the Committee
of Provosts,” Faduyile said.
He added that the new Vice Chancellor is expected to
officially assume duty on Monday, November 4, 2025.
On the issue of security in the area, the
Pro-Chancellor assured staff, students, and parents that Kontagora remains
peaceful and conducive for learning.
“I have been to Kontagora several times. It is
peaceful, and people live and work there without fear. The university
environment is safe and conducive for students,” he said.
Faduyile described FUEK as one of the fastest-growing
teacher education institutions in Nigeria, noting its large pool of Ph.D.
holders and modern academic facilities.
Originally established as a College of Education,
the institution was upgraded to a Federal University of Education by an
Act of Parliament in 2021 and began admitting students in March 2025.
With Haruna’s appointment, the university now has
substantive leadership to guide its academic and administrative development.
Governor Bago Congratulates New VC
Meanwhile, the Governor of Niger State, Umaru Bago,
has congratulated Professor Haruna on his appointment as the substantive Vice
Chancellor of FUEK.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary,
Bologi Ibrahim, Governor Bago described the appointment as “well-deserved
and timely.”
He commended Haruna’s “capacity, competence, and
track record of innovative and transformative leadership,” expressing
confidence that the new VC will move the young university to an enviable
height.
Governor Bago also lauded the Federal Government
for the appointment and pledged his administration’s support to ensure Haruna’s
success.
“Professor Haruna is a seasoned scholar and
administrator whose leadership will strengthen the foundation of this new
university and promote excellence in teacher education,” the governor said.
The Federal University of Education, Kontagora,
officially commenced operations in March 2025 following its transition from the
Federal College of Education, where Professor Haruna previously served
as Provost.
