The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a suspect
in connection with the murder of 42-year-old Shedrack Chukwem in Etche Local
Government Area.
The spokesperson for the command, CSP Grace
Iringe-Koko, disclosed on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, that the suspect,
identified as 29-year-old Robinson Uche, allegedly led his gang in carrying out
the crime.
According to the police, Uche and four others were
reportedly hired by a local monarch, Chief Elijah Okere, to bring the deceased
to his palace. The incident occurred on December 17, 2025, while Chukwem was
attending a family meeting. When the attempt to apprehend him failed, the group
allegedly shot Chukwem, resulting in his death.
The suspect later led police to the burial site at
Ekerre-Ugbor, where the body had been hastily interred in a shallow grave. The
remains were recovered and deposited at the Military Hospital Mortuary for
autopsy.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the other suspects,
including individuals identified as Prince (aka “Onyia-Army”), Achor, Gift
Okere (aka “Nnaye”), and an unnamed fifth accomplice.
Rivers State Police Commissioner CP Olugbenga Adewole
Adepoju assured the public that the command is committed to pursuing all
individuals involved and ensuring justice in the case. Further updates will be
