We already know the referees who will officiate the next La Liga matchday. For the Madrid derby between Real Madrid and Atletico, the Federation, through the CTA, has chosen Jose Maria Sanchez Martinez as the referee.
Murcian referee Jose Maria Sanchez Martinez will
referee next Sunday's Real Madrid-Atletico
Madrid derby, from matchday 23 of LaLiga EA Sports, in
which Eduardo Prieto Iglesias, from the Navarrese Committee, will
be in charge of the VAR.
It will be the second Madrid derby for Sanchez
Martinez (Lorca, 1983), after the 2019-20 Spanish Super Cup
final in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), in which Real Madrid won the title on
penalties (0-0/4-1) and in which he sent off Real Madrid's Fede
Valverde for a tackle on Álvaro Morata.
The last matches he has officiated Real Madrid this
season were on matchday 2, when 'Los Blancos' beat Almeria (1-3) and on
matchday 13 at the Bernabeu against Valencia (5-1). Last season he
officiated the Copa del Rey final, which Carlo Ancelotti's side won 2-1
against Osasuna, and also 'El Clasico' on Matchday 9, which ended in a Real
Madrid victory over Barcelona (3-1).
Sanchez Martinez's 2 most recent encounters
for Atletico Madrid have been on his La Liga visits to
Barcelona, on 3rd December, matchday 15 of this season, when the
'Colchoneros' suffered a narrow defeat (1-0) and on matchday
30 of last season, on 23rd April 2023, when the same result was
repeated in Barca's favour.
