Angel Correa confirmed that he is staying at Atletico. He
commented that he thought about leaving, as he did not have a good time after
the death of his mother. "I'm going to stay at the club, I'll try to find
the best way to help the team," he said.
Atletico Madrid's Argentinian striker Angel
Correa said on Wednesday after the 2-1 win over Rayo Vallecano that he
"wasn't having a good time with the loss" of his mother and
"needed a change" in the winter transfer window, which "didn't
happen for a reason", so he will "continue" at the Spanish
side.
"I think there was a possibility of leaving. I
had talked about it with Simeone, with the club.... My teammates knew about
it, I hadn't been having a good time for a few months with the
loss of my mum, I needed a change, it didn't happen for a reason, I'm
going to stay at the club and try to find the best way to help the
team," he explained in statements to 'Movistar' after the match at the
Cívitas Metropolitano stadium.
Correa made 400 appearances for Atletico. "I
didn't stop to think about it. It fills me with pride and happiness. It seems
like yesterday when I started playing here, at Atletico, when I was just 18
years old and very happy. And I'm even happier because we were able to
win," said the striker, after a "very tough, very tight"
match.
"I think it was Rayo's merit, they didn't
give us space to play our game and I think that's why the match was complicated
for us. We were able to score the second goal at the end and
we're very happy with the win," continued the Argentine striker, who
pointed out that "the team's plan is always to be at the top and to
fight".
