Seven victims of a brutal attack in Plateau State have been laid to rest in Bassa Local Government Area following an assault in Nche Shwerishi Miango on February 26, 2026. Reports indicate that the assailants stormed the victims’ homes, following them into their bedrooms before killing them.

The burial ceremony, held at a primary school in Miango on Saturday, February 28, comes days after nine victims of a terror attack in Dorowa Babuje, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, were laid to rest. Saturday’s service was marked by protests and public outrage over continued violence in the region.

Mourners carried placards reading, “Irigwe lives matter,” “Stop this Christian genocide,” “End Christian Genocide in Nigeria,” and “Justice for the slain victims.”

Ezekiel Bini, National President of the Irigwe Youths Movement, condemned the attack:

“We are tired of burying our people. We demand justice and protection for our community. We thought this nonsense would have stopped by now after two decades. Enough is enough. Open your eyes to the genocide happening here.”

Bini also criticized the arrest of community members over unrelated incidents, asserting, “No Irigwe man should take responsibility for something we don’t know. We will not take it again.”

His Royal Highness Ronku Aku described the day as “a dark day for our community,” highlighting the dangers of open grazing:

“Our problem is open grazing. My people are being killed. Open grazing must stop for us to have peace in Nigeria. You can’t be a Chief without the people.”

Joshua Riti, Chairman of Bassa LGA, assured residents that authorities would coordinate with security agencies to apprehend the attackers.

Among those buried was Abbas Musa, a graduate of Enugu State University of Science and Technology and a health officer with Bassa LGA, who was killed in his home on February 23, 2026. Other victims included Nancy Monday, Nuhu Isaiah, Henry Dah, Zongo Sunday, and Tarma Monday.
