In a surprising twist for African football, the Royal
Moroccan Football Federation is reportedly on the brink of terminating the
contract of Atlas Lions' head coach, Walid Regragui.
Regragui rose to prominence in 2022 after guiding
Morocco to a historic FIFA World Cup semi-final in Qatar.
However, his fortunes took a downturn during the 2023
Africa Cup of Nations, where the team suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to
South Africa.
The exact reasons for the decision to part ways with
the France-born coach remain undisclosed.
Meanwhile, the Tanzania Football Federation has
reportedly initiated talks with Regragui regarding a potential role as the head
coach of the Taifa Stars.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future,
Morocco currently leads its World Cup qualifying group with a perfect 15
points.
