An intending pilgrim from Taraba State has died in
Yola just hours before departing for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
The deceased, identified as Hajiya Dado Hammadu from
Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State, reportedly became ill shortly
after arriving at the Yola International Airport alongside other pilgrims
preparing for the airlift to Saudi Arabia.
Confirming the incident, Hamza Baba Muri, Information
Officer of the Taraba State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, said the woman fell
sick on Sunday night and was immediately taken to the Federal Medical Centre in
Yola for treatment.
According to Muri, she later died at the hospital
after being diagnosed with low blood pressure.
He disclosed that the deceased was buried in Yola on
Monday morning with the approval and consent of her family members.
Muri further explained that Hajiya Dado Hammadu was
among the 415 pilgrims scheduled to travel in the first batch of Taraba State’s
2026 Hajj operations on Monday, May 11.
The funeral prayer was attended by the Special Adviser
to the Governor on Muslim Pilgrims Affairs, Alhaji Hamman’Adama Tukur, the
Chairman of the Yola International Airport Committee, Malam Jamal Abdul’nasir,
officials of the pilgrims welfare board, and hundreds of intending pilgrims
preparing for the first flight to Saudi Arabia.
