Members of the Taraba State House of Assembly elected
on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alongside those who
recently joined the party, have defected to the All Progressives Congress
(APC).
Among the defectors is the Speaker of the House,
marking a major political shift in the state’s legislature.
The lawmakers said their decision was driven by the
escalating crisis within the PDP at the national level and the need to align
with the ruling party at the federal level to secure greater federal presence
and development for Taraba State.
The mass defection comes just days ahead of Governor
Agbu Kefas’s anticipated move to the APC on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.
With the latest development, all 24 members of the
Taraba State House of Assembly now belong to the APC, effectively making the
legislature a one-party chamber.
