The Federal Government has condemned the deadly attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, where bandits killed the Vice-Principal and abducted 25 students.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government described the incident as “reprehensible” and assured Nigerians that urgent measures are underway to rescue the girls.

Idris said security and intelligence agencies have received clear directives to locate, rescue, and ensure the safe return of the abducted students, while also bringing the perpetrators to justice.

He added that the Federal Government stands in solidarity with the affected families and shares in their pain, stressing that President Bola Tinubu considers the protection of all Nigerians—especially schoolchildren—a solemn responsibility.

“Our security and intelligence agencies have been issued clear directives to locate, rescue, and safely return the students, and to ensure that the perpetrators face justice,” the statement read.

The Minister reaffirmed that strengthening Nigeria’s internal security remains a top priority, noting that the government is recalibrating military, policing, and intelligence operations to better prevent and respond to such attacks. He also highlighted Nigeria’s renewed cooperation with ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to secure borders and disrupt criminal networks.

The attack occurred on Sunday night when armed men stormed the school in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area. According to eyewitnesses, the bandits killed the Vice-Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, before abducting several schoolgirls.

Residents said the assailants operated uninterrupted, causing widespread panic and plunging the region into fear and mourning.
